Somaliland: Malawi Writers invited to Hargeisa Book Fair 2014

Hargeisa(Wajaalenews)- Four Malawian writers have been invited to the Hargeysa Book Fair expected to take place from August 8 to 13 in Somaliland, Malawi Writers Union (Mawu) has said.

Mawu president Sambalikagwa Mvona told MaraviPost in an interview that Malawi will be represented by UK-based Mpalive Msiska, celebrated poet Jack Mapanje, Mawu secretary Norah Lungu and himself.

The fair which is going to be celebrated under the theme ‘Literature and History of our Country’, will feature internationally celebrated African authors among them writer of the Africa39 fame Nadifa Mohammed who will also launch her book.

Mvona will present a paper on ‘Cultural Identity in Malawi Literature, Twists and Turns of Malawi Literature in the Dictatorship Era and the Challenge and Successes of Malawi Literature in the Democratic Dispensation.’

According to Mvona, Malawi is a guest country at the fair.

“We will learn a lot from the fair and we will make sure we utilise the knowledge to be shared at the Hargeisa book fair to turn our story,” said Mvona.

He added: “We are already preparing for the trip and we are putting together crucial issues that affect the growth of creative writing in the country.
