August 21, 2019 - Written by Editor:Carrie Symonds ‘barred from US’ and there’s nothing Boris Johnson can do about it, metro.co.uk(W,N) The Prime Minister’s lover, 31, allegedly had her request blocked when she applied to go to the country in the next few days. She was barred from entering because she went to the East African country that is currently suffering from a civil war, according to the Daily Mail. Her trip involved spending time with the country’s president Muse Bihi Abdi and they are believed to have discussed women’s issues and sea pollution. While the UK has diplomatic relations with Somaliland since it split with Somalia, the US does not. When applying for visitor visas, also known as Estas, people are asked if they have been to Iraq, Syria, Iran, Sudan, Libya, Somalia or Yemen on or after March 1, 2011. If you have been to any of those countries then your Esta would likely be refused. She is due in the US as part of her job with Oceana, a US-based environmental group, the paper said. Man arrested over murder of student Libby Squire Because she is not married to the Prime Minister it is unlikely that Downing Street would intervene on her behalf. They stressed that her move to Number 10 would result in ‘no extra cost to the taxpayer’. Mr Johnson is still married to his second wife Marina Wheeler, mother of his four children. Head of the Somaliland Mission to the UK Ayan Mahamoud said: ‘Somaliland is an independent, peaceful and stable nation on the Horn of Africa, with a thriving democracy. ‘We are often wrongly confused with our neighbour to the south, Somalia. ‘This confusion is driven by the fact that we are not formally recognised as an independent country by the international community. We therefore remain tarnished by wrongful association with Somalia, from which we declared our independence in 1991 and re-established our sovereignty. ‘As these developments demonstrate, we continue to suffer the consequences of non-recognition. US visa restrictions often deter UK nationals from travelling to Somaliland; and our citizens – both at home and abroad – face significant travel restrictions. This impacts freedom of movement, harms our economy and risks deterring investors. ‘We have a longstanding and positive relationship with the UK Government, and we have been proud to host members of the Government within the last 12 months, numerous Members of Parliament, and thousands of tourists from the UK every year. ‘We continue to call on the UK Government to support our calls for international recognition and to support Somaliland as we seek to overturn the damaging and unjustified travel restrictions unfairly imposed on our citizens by the US Government.’
