It was late seventies when I learned that phrase ( crossed the BAR-LEV line ) from his older brother Mr. Omer Aden Awale. He was a lafole historian graduate and that time w as teaching in Qardho secondary school. Although Omer passed away years ago, but st ill he is in my mind.

Now, when the ambassador took over the Somali-land’s office in London, he began to ti ghten his belts. Participating the special occasions of the S/L communities in UK, organi zing and managing the demonstrations for the self- determination and independence of the Somaliland. Definitely, you have seen him lecturing in the universities and meeting t he political leaders in UK in order to explain and sell the S/L case to the intellectuals and politicians. Nigel Farage, the UKIP leader, joined Ali Aden Awale the occasion of the Som aliland National Day. He said “ Somaliland has been a beacon of peace, democracy and the rule of law in the horn of Africa for the past 24 years.

It is about time the UK and the rest of the international communities recognised Somalil and’s case for recognition. It is about time peace was rewarded”. Fortunately, the S/L flag was raised several parties in UK during Awale’s diplomatic administration in London. Therefore, we can say he is a good omen to our country. It has been said “ Time and Ti de waits for no man “, the ambassador spared no time and crossed the BAR-LEV line on the 18th May and knocked the door NO.10 down street which is the British Prime Minist er’s Office. He was accompanied by elite, intellectual, committed and patriotic Somalilan d action group. They handed the prime minister the Somaliland’s independence and rec ognition petition emotionally.

The BAR-LEV line was a chain of fortifications built by Israel along the eastern coast of the Suez canal after it captured the Sinai Peninsula from Egypt during the 1967 Six-Day war. Finally, there is no doubt that the wind is blowing to the right direction and our dr eam will come true sooner or latter insha-Allah.
