The misconception of somaliland media
November 6, 2014 - Written by Editor:

There is a huge misconception of what media stands for in Somaliland when you look at how information is gathered printed and broadcast.

To be more specific, when I say media, I am only referring to the informative media, such as newspapers, magazines, radio and television.

Bias informations is one of the first tools that makes newspapers to run and generate huge profits which is the greatest satisfactions of all operating newspapers and television broadcasters.

The somaliland national television broadcast only its own news which goes in accordance of what pleases the current Kulmiye ruling party satisfactory putting viewers to be bored and switching them to follow horn-cable tv which is not much better but always releases Bias by spin stories that has only one interpretation of an event or policy, to the exclusion of the other; spin involves tone – it’s a reporter’s subjective comments about objective facts; makes one side’s ideological perspective look better than another and so is the national television as well but who doesn’t incite violence.

The gravity of the misconception of Somaliland media doesn’t stand to bias by spin. Bias by omission always occur either within a story, or over the long term as a particular news outlet reports at one set of events, but not another. It is a common routine in Somaliland media specially in all operating journals to sometimes communicate through telephone conferences and fabricate info targeting wether the government, a business or a famous individual in order to get bribe in return by focusing on that for a while which is always fruitful and recompensing in return. The dictionary defines “fabrication” as To concoct in order to deceive, and that is how the people of Somaliland get their daily news concocted. The huge misconception of Somaliland media is related to its origins when you look at how information use to be transmitted with in the culturally oral society Somalis are known for. When you look at all the different perspectives, tools and ways that they were familiar with plus the fast growing information technology facilities they got access-to lacking the basics, education and guides is what created the misconception use of the media. By being poorly educated and the lack of knowledge put so many journalist in jail who are claiming that the freedom of the press subjected. No matter the wrong doings of Somaliland media if a journalist get arrested it goes to be a violation against the freedom of expression or the freedom of the press and gets all the attentions it needs. Defamation doesn’t exist in Somaliland media context because the source they get the information from is always cited as “by a trustworthy source” at the end of the story. Politicians and business owners or companies are mostly the victim subjects of defamation, all done by the media.

There is no law of defamation applicable allowing individuals, groups of individuals, companies to sue for damage to their reputation in Somaliland. But the key question is not the validity of some abstract ideal of journalism. The real question is what kind of system will end up with the general public having a good sense of the truth. And I think that a strong case can be made that journalism is more likely to deliver the goods. As a reader, it is not hard to figure out what is going on since it was clear to everyone what each paper’s agenda was, there was no point in really trying to hide it under cover the misconception of our media. One thing that always strikes me is how confident they are that the media and journalism in Somaliland think that they are far superior to neighbour countries. Today more than ever, news media is an important tool in Somaliland society since many people’s opinions and mindsets are formed based on what they receive from the news media. politics have been quite a spectacle because of the influence of the media showing bias.

It is fair to say that it is impossible to give an overview of the unrealistic print and verbal media exposed to the public’s eye. … The media in most cases relate to tribal ethnicity and there is another problem that media coverage caused is the “climate of intimidation.”

All the information contents in this article are the true events of Somaliland media and how they operate that really needs to be reformed and all operating press agencies regulated by setting strong feasible transparent rule of laws so that we get tangible accurate news.
